BOGOR – Access to clean water and proper sanitation is non-negotiable for a better life. Concerned about provision of these resources is paper company Aspex Kumbong, which recently built a clean water facility for Bojong Kaso Subvillage, part of Cileungsi Kidul Village in Bogor. Its handover was celebrated by Aspex management representatives, Bojong Kaso village leader and members, and local community figures.
The project emerged to address Bojong Kaso’s struggles with drought, where good quality water is few and far between. During dry seasons, locals must walk down to the river to access and obtain supplies from a nearby spring. Yet, it was barely a meter deep, and only produced large flows of water after Aspex reconstructed it.
If not for this work, most villagers relying on the spring wouldn’t be able to tap into more water — a feat only made possible by drilling the hole beyond 40 meters. With limited resources to do so, a clean water facility slash spring reconstruction was proposed to Aspex, which followed up with a field survey in March 2024 and the reconstruction itself on May 5.
This project finished not long after, supported by residents who also took part in the reconstruction. By May 13, the facility was handed over to 500 households and 1,540,000 people along with public bathroom and toilet units to encourage healthy sanitation.
Nunung Nurzanah, Aspex Kumbong management representative, reiterated company’s commitment to focus on neighboring regions with little opportunity to use safer water.
“Some areas off the [company] site are prone to drought. To restore them, we work with village governments to install clean water facilities. We hope communities benefit from these facilities, and we would also like to thank RW [Community Unit] 008 and Cileungsi Kidul Village government members for their support,” said Nunung.
Meanwhile, Cileungsi Kidul vice leader Acep Saprudin praised the company. “We extend our gratitude to Aspex Kumbong. You have helped the subvillage time and time again. To the people, I hope we use this facility carefully so it continues meeting our needs for clean water.”
Indra, a RW chief in Bojong Kaso, thanked Aspex on behalf of his members. Through joint activities with the local posyandu (integrated health clinic), Aspex’s Corporate Social Contribution programs have also played a role in ensuring adequate nutrition for Bojong Kaso toddlers.
“[I can say that] Aspex invests not only for profit, but also for the villagers here, to whom its presence and aid programs have been a great help. The company shows how it wants to grow with nearby communities, by paying heed to and addressing their needs and worries.” (AK/Nunung)
