TANGERANG – Together with the Sodong Village government and community, PT Korindo Heavy Industry (KHI) planted 500 tree seedlings at the village’s agritourism area in Tigaraksa District, Tangerang Regency, on Wednesday (7/15/2026). The event held in honor of World Environment Day is part of a joint initiative to strengthen environmental sustainability and support the development of Sodong’s agri-edutourism establishment.

A wide range of tree varieties — eucalyptus, longan, avocado, mango, trembesi (rain tree), and West Indian mahogany — will cover the six-hectare site that is being developed as a green space and a nature-based educational destination.

Present on the day were Korindo Foundation’s Secretary-General Sunghoon Lee, KHI’s General Manager Sunwoo Hyun, Sodong Village chief Doni Bambang Priangga, local community leaders, Sodong’s female farmer group, and several agricultural experts from Tangerang Regency.

Secretary-General Lee said the planting demonstrates Korindo Group’s support for the environment, as well as its effort to address three main environmental issues: climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution.

“Planting trees isn’t just about increasing green spaces. Every tree creates a healthier environment,” Lee stated. “Collaborations like this one are integral to achieving sustainable neighborhoods that benefit our children and grandchildren.”

Echoing this sentiment, KHI’s General Manager Sunwoo Hyun hopes to maintain the company’s partnership with Sodong Village through various environmental preservation and community empowerment programs.

For Hyun, the synergy among businesses, village governments, and local communities provides the groundwork for sustainable development — and impact on current and future generations.

“I hope this [planting] isn’t our last project together, but a start to many more shared initiatives. May the seedlings we donate today be useful for everyone here and the local ecosystem.”

Sodong Village sees this donation as proof of Korindo Group’s trust in its capacity to collaborate and build the community through preservation work.

“Today, Sodong welcomes Korindo [Group], which, through Ayo Menanam, brings trust and collaboration [and allows us] to build our village,” said Sodong Village chief, Doni Bambang Priangga. “For us, these seedlings are more than support. They’re an investment in community empowerment and village resilience.”

Onwards, the village government is committed to maintaining the trees, which ensures their optimal development and long-term benefits for the residents. Doni believed that Sodong’s agri-edutourism can continue to grow, serving locals and protecting ecosystem balance.

This 500-tree planting ceremony will further Sodong’s efforts towards a green, sustainable future. As a public-private-community collaboration, it shows that shared dedication is central to environmental preservation and enables its impacts to be felt in the present and future. (PR)
