JAKARTA, NOVEMBER 5, 2021 – Korindo Group through Korindo Foundation inaugurated the first herbal village in South Jakarta, located in Duren Tiga, Pancoran, on Friday (5/11). In collaboration with the local urban village, Korindo Foundation turned the community yard and local public facility into medicinal plant area.

Herbal Village is located exactly in Sawo Alley, RT 002/01 Duren Tiga Urban Village, Jakarta. At least 200 seeds from 14 different types of herbal plants were provided by Korindo Foundation for the benefit of the residents. From ginger, which is beneficial to relieve sore throat when coughing, to castor oil plant to treat cavities.

The General Secretary of Korindo Foundation Seo Jeongsik hopes that Korindo’s assistance can provide benefits to the community, especially from the aspect of health. “During the pandemic, consuming herbs can be a way to protect our body’s immune system. Hopefully the existence of Herbal Village can help the community to always maintain health, especially during the pandemic,” he said.

In addition to providing seed donation, Korindo Foundation also built mini nursery or a three-square-meter nursery. People can sow the seeds of the herbal plants if there are people needing them or as seeds to replace the old plants.

Korindo Foundation considered Sawo Alley has a great potential to develop herbal plants. Especially from the side of village cadres’ liveliness in providing education about plants with more medicinal purpose or value.

The Head of RW 001 Duren Tiga M Ilham said that the citizens are already familiar with medicinal plants. 10 years ago, RW 001 area won the competition of Physic Garden or Toga at the provincial level. Even today, local residents also often grow medicinal plants for the benefits of their family and the surrounding environment.

Ilham hopes that the residents can continue to actively maintain Herbal Village facility built by Korindo. “Creating is easy, but maintaining is not. Let us together maintain plants and the mini nursery built by Korindo,” he encouraged.

Meanwhile, the Head of Duren Tiga Urban Village Muhammad Mursid said that Korindo’s donation is a real form of collaboration that is now being echoed by DKI Jakarta Provincial Government. While the government provides assistance from the bureaucracy side and the citizens run the technical implementation in the field, the company can contribute in various forms of corporate social responsibility programs.

Mursid said that this is the first time a herbal village being built in South Jakarta. “This is possibly the first herbal village in South Jakarta. People who want to do treatment by using herbal plants, they can get them at the RW area,” he explained.

The development program of Herbal Village will not stop here. In accordance with the principles of sustainability that are run in its business activities and CSC programs, Korindo will run a similar program in various regions to support food self-sufficiency and community health. (pr)
