JAKARTA – Korindo Group and KOTRA have come up with “Anak Pintar Peduli Plastik” (Smart Kids Against Plastic), a movement to save the environment. Like its name, it aims to foster love for the environment and concerns for waste issues among elementary-age Jakartans.
The campaign happened Thursday (8/24) at the site of public elementary school SDN 21 Karet Tengsin. Dozens of students, including fourth-, fifth-, and sixth-graders, were present and received reusable bags.
The kids were invited to participate in the act of collecting used plastic bottles, where the bags would be used as a temporary storage. The items inside can then be exchanged for money to support their learning activities.
“Thank you Korindo, thank you KOTRA for trusting us in this campaign. I hope today’s event encourages our kids to take better care of the environment for years to come,” said SDN 21 Karet Tengsin’s principal Painem, M. Ed.
Jakarta is now faced with a serious plastic issue. Last March, 2,697 pieces of single-use plastics were found piling up along the coastline of Marunda Kepu in North Jakarta. This number is a huge sign that we should start saving the environment, given plastics are among non-biodegradable materials. As a matter of fact, it takes 450 years for these objects to decompose.
“Anak Pintar Peduli Plastik” is part of Korindo Group’s commitment to nature preservation. Through this movement, we make our part in protecting the Earth. We’re aware that having an early love for the environment is crucial for our future. (PR)
