JAKARTA – Korindo Group through Korindo Foundation is committed to always be present to improve the quality of the young generation in Indonesia. The contributions are given in various scholarship programs that have reached out to more than 2,700 students in various regions in Indonesia.
The General Secretary of Korindo Foundation Seo Jeongsik said that the scholarship provision has been a regular program from Korindo’s Corporate Social Contribution (CSC) for a long time. This activity is proof of Korindo’s social responsibility in the pillar of education.
“Through the assistance Korindo provides, we hope more and more young children can access higher education so they can achieve their dreams,” he said.
One of the educational assistance programs that has been carried out by Korindo Foundation is the scholarship provision to outstanding students. Since its start in 1998, the program has provided scholarships to 805 students from six universities in Indonesia. The total value of the scholarship reached Rp 2.4 billion.
The latest scholarship was awarded to 25 students with a scholarship worth Rp 5 million for each recipient. They are students of the Korean Language Program and the Faculty of Forestry in University of Indonesia (UI), National University (UNAS), University of Gadjah Mada (UGM), Indonesia University of Education (UPI) and Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB).
The scholarship was symbolically handed over through a virtual meeting held on Wednesday (27/10) to Friday (29/10). In addition to Seo, also present in the event were the Manager of Korindo Foundation Setiyono, scholarship recipient students, and representatives from each university.
High achievement is not the only criterion determined by Korindo Foundation for the scholarship provision. Since last year, Korindo Foundation also paid attention to the economic conditions of the students’ families. This is in line with the situation during the COVID-19 pandemic, which has given a financial impact on people, including the parents.
One of the scholarship recipients from UNAS, Dinda Tri, expressed her gratitude to Korindo Foundation. According to her, the scholarship donation has increased her learning motivation during the pandemic. “Hopefully more and more students could benefit from the scholarship from Korindo Foundation,” she said.
Not only in the form of scholarship, Korindo Foundation also provides educational assistance in the form of student exchange to Yonsei University, South Korea. The program, known as Yonsei University Exchange Program, is intended for students from UI.
The program, which was initiated in 2003, has sent 22 students from UI. This year, students who managed to receive the opportunity to study at Yonsei University for 10 months are Arifiliani Mahira Nasywa (Rifa) and Berthania Sekarini (Bertha).
Bertha and Rifa expressed their appreciation for the program from Korindo Foundation that has given the opportunity for Indonesian students to experience studying in the Land of Ginseng. “This scholarship is very beneficial for us who want to study in Korea, yet are constrained by the cost,” they said during a virtual discussion with the team from Korindo Foundation in August.
Korindo’s concern in the field of education is also shown through the scholarship program at the company’s internal level. Every year, Korindo Foundation distributed scholarships to high-achieving children of employees. This year, the scholarship was awarded to 98 junior high and high school students, which was handed over in early September.
Scholarship program for children of Korindo Group’s employees has been carried out since 23 years ago and has been received by more than 1,900 children with a value of approximately Rp 1.4 billion. This program is Korindo’s proof of commitment to improve the education in Indonesia while also serves as a form of attention from the company to its employees. (/pr)
