YOGYAKARTA – 2025 marks the two-decade anniversary of Korindo Foundation’s scholarship program with Gadjah Mada University (UGM). This long-standing commitment began after UGM launched its Korean Language diploma program in 2005, which has since evolved into a bachelor’s program in Korean Language and Culture.

“Korindo [Foundation] has shown great care for our students since the very beginning of our Korean Language program. That’s why we welcome this continued partnership,” said Suray Agung Nugroho, Ph.D., Deputy Dean of Finances, Assets, and Human Resources at UGM’s Faculty of Cultural Sciences. “[In fact,] Korindo Foundation’s scholarships are much anticipated, being the largest cash-based support offered to undergraduates here.”

Applicants are selected based on a combination of criteria, including academic merit and financial need. To the chosen students, Nugroho shared his hopes that they make the most of this opportunity. He also expected to expand the partnership with Korindo Foundation to include other joint initiatives.

This year’s scholarship award ceremony happened on Thursday (9/25), showcasing a lively performance of talchum (traditional Korean mask dance) by members of a dongari (student club) under the Korean Language and Culture study program.

Starting in 2025, the Foundation has increased its scholarship quota to six awardees per university. The expansion is aimed at reaching more learners in need of financial assistance.

“Since 2005, we have provided scholarships to UGM’s Korean Language and Culture majors. It’s how we help educate the nation and assist college-goers with their studies. This year, we have increased the number of our beneficiaries, and we hope to do it further in the coming years. Congratulations to all lucky students — may this support help you navigate your academic journey and achieve even greater success,” said Setiyono, Korindo Foundation’s general manager.

Awardee and seventh-semester student Anisa Setya Utami expressed her gratitude. “Thank you for giving me this precious scholarship. I’m on my final thesis this year, so this gift has given me a huge motivation boost to work on it, finish my studies, and graduate, hopefully, by next February. It’s a tremendous help for both my education and future career.”

Another scholarship recipient, third-semester student Oryza Sativa Rosyadi, echoed this sentiment. Korindo Foundation’s scholarship is more than financial aid to her; “it represents the trust and support that our lecturers and the Foundation have placed in us.”

Korindo Foundation remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring underserved high achievers complete their education and contribute to a brighter future for Indonesia. (KORINDO FOUNDATION)
