Foreword

2023 is an interesting year to review: driven by COVID-19 surge, most people are now used to practicing healthy habits. The government has also downgraded the pandemic’s status to endemic, which means everyone can go back to their daily activities and live side by side with the disease.

This period of transition raises optimism that the world is moving for the better. In Korindo, we translate this confidence into work programs that are useful from business, social, and environmental standpoints.

We present these environmentally beneficial programs in our articles. The one from our Paper Division, for example, shares how the division runs a settling pond to implement the reduce, reuse, and recycle (3R) program.

The pond’s purpose is to manage and improve contaminated, used water quality up to the desired standard or to consumable levels. Applying the 3R principle to raw water quality maintenance is a breakthrough whose benefits are not only felt by people, but also by nature.

Aside from the facility, there are many more things that we did, much more progress that we achieved in the last semester that made it into this edition of One Step Ahead.
It is our hope that these initiatives are not merely seen as a bunch of words on a page, a recap of what’s done, but as something that inspires us all to become a better person, day by day.

Napoleon Hill once said, “Do not wait: the time will never be ‘just right’. Start where you stand, and work whatever tools you may have at your command and better tools will be found as you go along.” There is nothing more futile than waiting for the right moment, because it’s us who should make those moments. Do you agree?
