BOGOR, September 14, 2021 – The development plan for Pondok Rajeg City Forest, Bogor, which was initiated by the Bogor Regency Government and Korindo Group has entered a new stage. This step was inaugurated through the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the Trial Planting at Pondok Rajeg City Forest held at the Office of the Regional Development Planning, Research, and Development (Bappeda Litbang), Bogor Regency, Monday (13/9).
This agreement was officially signed by the Bogor Regency Government and Korindo Foundation, a division specialized in handling Korindo Group’s social contributions. Both parties were represented by the Deputy Chairperson of the Social and Environmental Responsibility Facilitation Team (TF-TJSL) Yusfitriadi, Section Head of Environmental Impact Prevention at Environmental Service Office (DLH) of Bogor Regency M. Haris and the General Secretary of Korindo Foundation Seo Jeongsik.
The trial planting aims to determine the level of suitability between the soil characteristics at the prospective location of Pondok Rajeg City Forest and the types of trees that will be planted, namely trembesi and sengon. The trial process will be carried out in an area of 2,700 square meters (m2) that had been cleared in late August by empowering the local community.
The trial planting activity is planned to start on Saturday (18/9) followed by an intensive monitoring process for one year. The Regent of Bogor Ade Yasin and the Chairman of Korindo Group Robert Seung are scheduled to attend the event to perform tree planting.
Yusfitriadi said that the Bogor Regency Government would intensively monitor the development of the trial stage together with Korindo Foundation. “When it is finished, the next step is to sign another MoU for the official planting stage,” he explained.
The Pondok Rajeg City Forest is planned to be built on the former landfill of Pondok Rajeg with an area of about seven hectares (ha). In 2018, the land was designated as an urban forest through a Regent’s Decree (SK).
Yusfitriadi expressed his deep appreciation to Korindo Group for showing its concern towards the environment through the development of urban forests. He called Korindo Group as a pioneering company in environmental conservation in Bogor Regency.
“This is a good example for companies in Bogor Regency that have not been doing their best in implementing their CSR programs,” he uttered.
In the future, Yusfitriadi hopes that Korindo Group can continue its environmental conservation activities in Bogor Regency. Especially in disaster-prone areas such as Cigudeg and densely populated areas, including Jasinga.
A similar hope was also expressed by Haris, who represented the Head of DLH, Asnan. According to him, environmental issues in Bogor Regency cannot be solved by the local government alone. The involvement of other parties is truly needed, including private companies like Korindo Group.
“We hope that Korindo’s social responsibility program will not stop here. We will be waiting for more activities, to fix environmental issues together in Bogor Regency,” Haris said.
Korindo Group’s involvement in the development of open green space in Bogor has been going on since the last two years. At that time, Korindo Group together with the Bogor Regency Government built Pakansari City Forest with size of two ha, which is now starting to become a lush place filled with Eucalyptus deglupta trees.
In 2020, Korindo Foundation and the Paper Division of Korindo Group, PT Aspex Kumbong teamed up to launch Korindo Green Corner in Cileungsi, Bogor. The integrated reforestation program aims to rehabilitate non-productive lands and turn them into productive lands that can be used as reforestation zones as well as an area for fruit tree cultivation.
Seo mentioned that in every reforestation activity, Korindo does not only do planting. The company is also involved in maintenance and treatment of the area, as has been done regularly for Pakansari City Forest and Korindo Green Corner.
“This is carried out as a continuous effort in the reforestation program and is proof of Korindo’s commitment to contributing in long term environment protection,” Seo said.
This concern from Korindo Group through a series of Corporate Social Contribution (CSC) programs received an appreciation from the Bogor Regency Government. The appreciation was presented in the form of an award certificate from the Regent of Bogor Ade Yasin, which was awarded to Korindo Foundation as a company that carried out Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) that has played a role in the development of Bogor Regency in 2019-2020.
