JAKARTA – Korindo Group and its subsidiaries went dark for this year’s Earth Hour on Saturday (3/28). The event taking place between 8:30 and 9:30 p.m. was part of a broader effort to support emissions reduction and build an energy-saving work culture.

Lights, appliances, and equipment were off across office spaces, executive and employee dorms, and wherever possible for a temporary shutdown.

This happened at 10 companies under the Korindo Group banner: PT Dongbang Development (Wisma Korindo), PT Aspex Kumbong, PT Bimaruna Jaya, PT Korindo Heavy Industry, PT Kenertec Power System, PT Belantara Subur, PT Korindo Aria Bima Sari, PT Korintiga Hutani – HTI, PT Korintiga Hutani – IND, and PT Korindo Abadi.

Dila Ayu, Korindo Group’s Environment Coordinator, said Earth Hour is a “call for reflection” on individual contribution to environmental conservation.

“During this hour, we are invited to reflect and realize how every watt we save helps reduce our carbon footprint.”

To ensure real impact, each subsidiary recorded their electricity meter readings before and after the switchoff.

Aggregate results showed a 6,908.05 decrease in carbon emissions (measured in kg CO₂), which equals the environmental impact of planting 11,514 Cassia trees.

By participating in the global campaign, Korindo Group demonstrates its belief in aligning business longevity with ecological responsibility, said Setiyono, head of Korindo Group’s Learning and Innovation Center (LIC).

“We hope our excitement for Earth Hour spreads to everyone in the organization and our immediate communities. [We hope] it can encourage them to adopt energy-saving habits and bring a greener, livable Earth to our future generations.”

Through this initiative, Korindo Group affirms how environmental protection can begin with simple steps taken collectively and consistently. Not only is Earth Hour a symbolic event; it also contributes to ongoing efforts that build shared awareness of a more sustainable future. (LIC)
