Korindo’s Plywood Aid is Considered Right on Target
JAKARTA – It is still clear on our minds about earthquake and tsunami disaster that hit Palu and Donggala, Central Sulawesi earlier on last September 2018. Based on the Central Sulawesi Provincial Government’s data, the number of deaths and missing persons reached 4,402 people, which there are 2,865 died, 701 missing persons, and 1,016 victims were mass buried, as well as massive construction damage. At that time, Korindo Foundation did not stay quiet. Plywood material aid worth Rp7,000,000,000,- (seven billion rupiah) was immediately donated through the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) Headquarters.
112,120 sheets of plywood aid were sent straight to Palu by Asike Global Ship owned by Korindo Group on the end of October 2018. This was handed over by the Vice Chairman of Korindo Group, Mr.
Kim sang Jin along with General Secretary Yi Sun Hyeong to the Management of Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) of Central Sulawesi in Pantoloan Port, Palu.
As for now, six months has already passed since the aid was distributed. The benefit of the aid provided by Korindo Foundation can still be felt by the Palu people until now. The plywood aid provided by Korindo Foundation has been used as material to rebuild infrastructure damaged by disaster.
Based on the information from PMI, the aid from Korindo Foundation has been used to build temporary shelter for the victims of earthquake and tsunami disaster in Palu, Dongglaa, Sigi, and other region around Central Sulawesi. “We have distributed the aid from Korindo to those regions and it is still in progress,” said
Ridwan, the PR Staff of PMI when met by the editorial team at his office earlier on April.
Ridwan admitted, the Korindo Foundation’s aid is mostly distributed to Sigi area with percentage of 45% as that area suffered the most damage due to the disaster. The construction of temporary shelter is expected to finish on the end of December 2019.
In addition of building temporary shelter, the plywood aid from Korindo Foundation is also utilized to make household furniture and equipment for public facilities. Various equipment such as chairs, walls and floors have been made from Korindo Foundation’s plywood.
Based on official statement from PMI, the Korindo Foundation’s aid has helped
at least 8,500 residents in five regions in Central Sulawesi. The aid in the form of plywood is considered right on target, as it can help the development of infrastructure. “Indeed, Korindo’s aid is very useful because their greatest needs are more likely for infrastructure,” Ridwan said.
PMI and Palu people are really grateful for the aid provided by Korindo Foundation. PMI revealed, in the midst of limited material and raw materials because the distribution process was rather quite difficult, the help of plywood from the Korindo Foundation had lightened the burden on the victims to return to their daily lives.
As reported before, initially, the plywood aid from Korindo Foundation was symbolically handed over by the Chairman of the Korindo Foundation who also served as the Senior Vice Chairman of Korindo Group, Mr. Robert Seung and accompanied by the Secretary General of the Korindo Foundation, Mr. Yi Sun Hyeong. The handover was carried out on October 11, 2018 and in Jakarta and was received directly by the Daily Executive Chairman of the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), Prof. DR.
Ir. Ginandjar Kartasasmita. “This is a manifestation of Korindo’s concern for others. Hopefully, this aid could help the government and the community in the process of recovery and to accelerate of reconstruction,”
Mr. Robert Seung said in the middle of hand over event at PMI Jakarta Headquarters at that time, [cka/ray/ymr/pr]
