JAKARTA – Up in North Jakarta, there lies Bayam Subvillage, a settlement dedicated to urban farming. It draws on hydroponic, aquaponic, and biofloc technology to produce seedlings and organic fertilizers from a 1.5-hectare plot. The village is currently inhabited by 35 households (121 people) raising a wide range of plants.
Recently, their struggles in promoting food security and urban agriculture have caught the attention of Korindo Group, which later extended funding to support their farming activities. Through a Corporate Social Contribution program called Green Sponsorship, the company seeks to encourage greater economic independence while preserving the subvillage’s natural ecosystems.
Green Sponsorship is expected to address short- and long-term economic issues, maintain a sense of solidarity among Bayam members, and contribute to environmental conservation.
“We stand here this morning to present our Green Sponsorship [funding], our support for communities engaging in green initiatives and economic empowerment. We hope this will bring tangible benefits to our beneficiaries, encouraging their growth and empowering them,” said Setiyono, Korindo Foundation’s general manager.

The funding handover Wednesday (8/27) was met with praises from residents. They believe Green Sponsorship would help improve their economy and survival.
“We’re very grateful for Korindo Foundation’s Green Sponsorship aid. It gives us hope to continue farming, as well as support to expand our crop production, fish farming, and ornamental plant businesses that ensure our independence and prosperity,” said local Muhammad Furqon.
This program demonstrates Korindo Foundation and Group’s role in creating a sustainable, community-based business ecosystem. Bayam Subvillage is hoped to use this capital assistance to enhance farming activities, boosting productivity, health, and environmental benefits while inspiring communities. (*)
