JAKARTA, 9 APRIL 2020 — The Korindo Group has just donated 120,000 masks to the people of Papua to help fight the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The donation was handed over by the Senior Vice Chairman of Korindo, Mr. Robert Seung, and received by representatives of the regencies of Merauke, Boven Digoel, and Mappi. The first two regencies will receive 50,000 masks each while the latter will receive 20,000.
“With this donation, we hope to help the local government fight the spread of COVID-19,” said Mr. Seung.
Korindo’s donation comes as a response to a report issued by the Indonesian National Board of Disaster Management (BNPB). In the report, it is stated that Papua has the least access to medical facilities, which makes it even more important to implement measures that reduce the spread of the pandemic.
It is worth noting that Papua’s vulnerability not only comes from its lack of medical facilities but also from its inaccessibility due to a hard terrain. That is why Korindo’s donation will be distributed, starting today, with the help of the Indonesian Air Force, which will be using a Hercules aircraft to take the masks from Jakarta to Papua.
