Korindo Group Helps Flood Victims in Sentani

JAYAPURA – Flood disaster has hit Sentani, Jayapura, Papua in the mid of March 2019. According to the latest data from The National Agency for Disaster Countermeasure (BNPB), at least 112 people were killed by the disaster. Many homes were destroyed and about 5,347 residents were forced to temporarily stay at a shelter.

Seeing the concerning condition, Korindo Group, which operates in Papua Province, was moved and went straight ahead to alleviate the sufferings felt by the flood victims. Korindo, through the Emergency Response Team delivered an aid to the flood victims last Friday (29/3) in Jayapura Regent’s office, which also became the command post for the disaster relief. This aid is also a part of Korindo CSC/CSR program which continues to care for the people’s welfare of Indonesia.

The aid delivered for the flood victims in Sentani was in the form of financial aid with value of Rp200,000,000,- (two hundred million rupiahs). This financial aid was handed over by the Director of the Government Affais of Korindo along with the General Manager of Korindo Merauke, Mr. Kim In Lae and was directly accepted by the Regent of Jayapura, Matius Awoitauw.

The Government of Jayapura Regency expressed their gratitude for the aid and support given by Korindo Group for the people of Sentani who were affected by the flood disaster. “It is hoped that this aid can restore the condition of the residents affected by the disaster,” said Regent Matius Awoitauw during the aid handover ceremony.

In his statement, the Regent of Jayapura explained that the government is currently in the middle of a transition process following the announcement of emergency state on March 16th. In helping the evacuees, the government is focusing on providing the basic needs, MCK facilities (bathing, washing, toilet), and clean water. The government will also prepare a temporary shelter for the victims whose homes were destroyed by the disaster.
