Korindo Group is donating Rp 30 billion for the longterm development of four villages in Papua located in the vicinity of the corporation’s operations.
The fund is aimed at supporting communities in Bana Mepe, Nagia, Salamepe and Tagepe to fulfi ll their basic needs and to help them to live independently. The fund will be disbursed in installments over 30 years, from 2012 through 2041. An initial Rp 5.3 billion will be paid out in 2012,followed by biennial disbursements of Rp 1.7 billion thereafter, with a final payment of Rp 900 million being made in 2041.
The Korindo Group is the only company in Papua that has an agreement to pay the village development fund for 30 years, making local communities happy to welcome the company. Besides the allocation of the fund, the company also plans to build schools, houses of worship, roads, and other facilities as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) program.
The company opened an oil palm plantation in 2009 and employs 617 people from Ngguti district in Merauke regency.
