Korindo Foundation Donates Rp 7 Billion for Disaster Victims

JAKARTA – Sad news has struck the country again. After hitting Lombok, an earthquake accompanied by a tsunami has devastated Palu and Donggala regions in Central Sulawesi in the end of September 2018. Thousands of people have been victims, and hundreds of home along with infrastructures have been damaged. Seeing these heartbreaking conditions, KORINDO Group was immediately moved to help the victims in the rehabilitation and reconstruction processes so they would quickly recover from the disaster.

KORINDO Group through KORINDO Foundation delivered material aid valued at Rp 7,000,000,000 (seven billion rupiah) to Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) today, Thursday (11/10/2018). The materials donated are plywood as many as 112,200 sheets (±1,100 m3) which can later be used for reconstruction process for victims of the earthquake and tsunami.

The aid was handed over directly by the Head of KORINDO Foundation who also serves as the Senior Vice Chairman of KORINDO Group, Mr. Robert Seung and was accompanied by the Secretary-General of KORINDO Foundation, Mr. Yi Sun Hyeong. The aid was received by the Vice Chairman of Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), Prof. DR. Ir. Ginandjar Kartasasmita.

“This is a form of concern from KORINDO towards others. Hopefully this aid can help the government and the people in the recovery process and reconstruction acceleration,” said Mr. Robert Seung during the aid delivery at PMI Headquarters, Jakarta. He also stated his appreciation for the good cooperation with PMI.

Executive Chairman of PMI, Ginandjar Kartasasmita added, “We are grateful for the trust from KORINDO Foundation, with the aid given to PMI. This donation will later be used to help people affected by the earthquake and tsunami in Central Sulawesi,” said Ginandjar.

Following the symbolic aid delivery, KORINDO Foundation along with PMI will be in coordination regarding the technical shipping from plywood production centers which will be done with KORINDO Ship, Asiki Global. Later on, the aid will be received and used by PMI in Palu, Central Sulawesi.

Previously, KORINDO has also contributed to help the disaster victims in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, by providing at least 58 big boxes filled with logistical needs and basic needs. In the education sector, KORINDO has just given scholarships to hundreds of students from schools and universities in order to improve the quality of human resources in Indonesia. This is KORINDO’s form of concern as well as efforts to develop Indonesia through the Corporate Social Contribution (CSC/CSR) activity in various fields. (pr)
